A Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) sorts and separates the mixed dry recyclables (blue bin) content, such as paper, cardboard, tins and plastics, and takes glass from Bring Sites and Household Waste and Recycling Centres.
A MRF is a facility at which components of a mixed waste stream are separated by using a mechanical separation system and manual labour.
After the sorting of materials there is a bulking and storage function whereby balers are used to compress some of the recyclables (cans and bottles) into dense bales for transport to the materials re-processors.
